Are those Indian/ Chinese "STAR" marine diesel engines any good?

Question
I've just stumbled upon a website offering a brand of marine outboards and propshaft motors I've never heard of before. The brand is apparently "Star", and the motors are made in India and China. I'm building a whole zoo of crazy little boats for home use at present, and I am looking for a cheap, little diesel. Are those any good? "Home use" meaning commuting on the Otago Harbour in Southern New Zealand, not my bath tub. ;-)
Answer
Tahini: you should have provided your web-site ! ------- General comments: 1. if they are built in India AND in China then you are dealing only with a distributor. I would not trust any Indian small diesel engine. Not yet. Aren't you the guru on "made in India" ? The Chinese diesel engine manufacturers usually know what they do. They cannot afford to build "garbage", given the scale of their production volumes. 2. Newstar-Marine is a distibutor and engine rebuilder. See: http://www.newstar-marine.com.tw/index-eg.htm 3. the other "Star" which came up in my quick search was http://www.sms-star.com/en_01_company.asp They would not be a Diesel engine manufacturer/ rebuilder.. 4. there is a boat seller in NZ, almost certainly only a distributor/ reseller -- hope your Kiwi readers/ fans can comment: http://starmarinenz.trustpass.alibaba.com/ 5. what is wrong with Yanmar? http://www.yanmar.com/ ==> 6. fun reading on marine diesel myths: http://www.yachtsurvey.com/GasDiesel.htm 7. and finally any cc'd (Chinese copied) "Deutz" engine would be way too big for your purposes
