I have a 3TN yanmar diesel engine that has a hole in number 3 cylinder. I would like to weld the block back up, But don't know if the block is cast Iron, steel or pot Iron. Please advise me.. Thanks

is the hole inside the cylinder or in the crankcase? if in cylinder it can have a sleeve fitted to it by boring out cylinder and pressing in sleeve and then re-boring to suit piston. if in crank case i would recommend replacing it as the heat of welding distorts every thing.
